In 2024, Los Angeles will host the Mission Investors Exchange 2024 National Conference, an annual conference that brings together more than 750 philanthropy and impact investing leaders from across the country.
This year's theme: " investing in social and environmental change at a time when the field of impact investing is growing rapidly," per a press release.
Mayor Karen Bass will speak on the "crisis of the unhoused" on May 8, and filmmaker Ava DuVernay will speak on "Empowering Change in Hollywood Through Impact Investing" on May 9.
Jay Brown, co-founder and vice chairman of Roc Nation and co-founder of Marcy Venture Partners, will also speak.
"The time is now for philanthropy to boldly and resolutely assert its leadership in service of full economic inclusion and shared prosperity for all across this nation," says Robert K.
Ross, president and CEO of the California Endowment, which will commit 100% of its $4 billion in assets to support its mission and values.
The Los Angeles Times reports that in addition to Bass and DuVernay, other speakers at this year's conference include Silicon Valley Community Foundation President Nicole Taylor, Mellody Hobson, co-CEO of Ariel Investments, and Cheryl Dorsey, president of Echoing Green.
